  • £16,500 Raised by The Painsley Catholic Academy for CAFOD’s Ukrainian Humanitarian Appeal.

    Mon 23 May 2022

The Painsley Catholic Academy is delighted to announce that its schools have collectively raised £16,500 for CAFOD’s Ukrainian Humanitarian Appeal.  The academy comprises two Catholic high schools and thirteen Catholic Primary schools in Staffordshire and started their fundraising in March.

Primary school activities included sponsored walks, fun runs, making and selling craft items including their own story books, bake sales, film nights and many more.  Two primary schools asked students to bring in loose change and used the coins to fill in a large map of Ukraine. A special mention should also go to St Filumena's Catholic Primary School who raised a massive £2446 with their ‘Walk For Ukraine’, where the children completed laps of the sports field within a set time.

At Blessed William Howard Catholic High School, in Stafford, St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Uttoxeter and Painsley Catholic College, in Cheadle, students brought in a huge quantity of items to be shipped to Ukraine – items such as bedding / torches and long-life food, in addition to raising almost £10,000 in funds.

Painsley College asked students to use a £1 donation from the RE Department and to make it grow by investing it into their own personal fundraising activities. Blessed William Howard students organised a whole day of activities for the school, including 'sponge the teacher', tuck shops, penalty shoot outs and rowing competitions.

St John’s Catholic Primary School in Great Haywood near Stafford is one of the smaller schools in the academy, and has welcomed three Ukrainian children into its family this term.  Head of School, Mrs Lucy Snaith, commented, “The school community has raised over £150 for the CAFOD appeal but what has been really amazing is just how lovely our children have been in welcoming our three new students and going out of their way to make them feel at home.”

Mr Steve Bell, CEO at The Painsley Catholic Academy said, “I am immensely proud of the efforts of all of our students, from age 3 to age 18, they have all taken this campaign to their hearts.  Thank you also to parents and staff who have supported the various initiatives throughout the academy.”

  • Science Week Activities

    Fri 18 Mar 2022

To celebrate British Science Week, class 1 became scientists! The children made seed bombs and planted them in their outdoor area. The children loved making the seed bombs and can't wait for the garden area to 'explode with colour'. We will be monitoring the progress and hopefully see some lovely flowers soon

We also spoke about what plants need to grow as well as discussing the parts of a plant. The children in reception created a lovely, labelled diagram of a flower too! Well done!

  • Prayer Garden Makeover

    Mon 14 Mar 2022

Class 1 have been busy tidying up our prayer garden. They have also painted prayer stones and thought about those who need help.

Whilst they were tidying our prayer garden, they found lots of insects but their most interesting find was an old rusty tin that we can't open! The children have had some amazing ideas of what might be in the tin and have even thought about how we might be able to get into the tin.

The children are looking forward to investigating further!

  • Welcome back to our Parent and Toddler Group!

    Mon 28 Feb 2022

Today, we welcomed our parent and toddler back into school for their first session since the pandemic!   And, with it being pancake day tomorrow - what better theme for the day!? Participants both young and older got hands-on making Play Doh food and using our new play kitchen and accessories - many thanks to Mr Alan Bloor and members of The Haywood Society for their generous donation which allowed us to purchase these!

Our parent and toddler sessions take place every Monday at 1.30pm - come along and join us!

  • Children's Mental Health Week

    Fri 11 Feb 2022

The children have enjoyed looking at different aspects of mental health as part of Children's Mental Health Week, this week. Class 3 created this fantastic display! Class 4 created their own artwork inspired by the slogan, ‘Growing Together’. They considered aspects of themselves that they would like to grow, such as confidence, self esteem and resilience. Well done!

  • Bikeability

    Wed 09 Feb 2022

A huge well done to Y3, Y4 and Y5 for their participation and maturity in the Bikeability sessions this week. Both of the instructors commented on the children’s fabulous listening skills and were very impressed. Well done for working hard to improve your bike safety skills, important skills for now and in the future.

Thank you, all, for representing St John’s so well!

  • Three Little Pigs!

    Fri 28 Jan 2022

Last week, Class 1's focus story was 'Three Little Pigs'. The children worked together to build a straw house in our outdoor area. They discussed what they wanted it to look like and decided what materials they would use. They left some fruit and teddies in the straw house hoping that the Three Little Pigs might visit. When we came back to school the next day, we spotted that something had indeed visited our straw house!

  • Children enjoy Afternoon Tea with Santa!

    Fri 10 Dec 2021

A HUGE THANK YOU to our PTFA (and their helpers!) for organising the Afternoon Tea with Santa event. The children had a wonderful afternoon tea that included activities such as making their own cracker, decoration a stocking, icing biscuits, a disco and a visit from Father Christmas himself! We know that a lot of effort goes on behind the scenes to provide these events for our pupils and that this couldn’t happen without your support - everyone’s effort is very much appreciated.  THANK YOU!

  • Middleport Pottery Visit

    Fri 03 Dec 2021

On Tuesday 30th November, Class 2 visited Middleport Pottery
They all had the most fantastic day exploring Middleport.  The children learned about clay, the different jobs people did and even got to go inside a real bottle kiln.  The children also learned about the canal, the bath house, and weigh bridge and spent the afternoon modelling their own bottle kilns from air-dry clay.
