  • C1 Learn About Opening Their Hearts

    Tue 06 Jun 2023

Children in Class 1 have enjoyed reflecting on what love means to them during their RHE session. They each created a heart and wrote their name in the middle. They then folded their hearts up and one at a time placed them in the bowl of water. They then observed all of their hearts spreading open in the water.

“We folded the hearts up and that showed us keeping all of our love to ourselves but that isn’t what God wants us to do. He wants us to spread our love and to love others like He loves us.”

  • Scooter Skills

    Fri 19 May 2023

All classes really enjoyed taking part in a Scooter Skills session on Wednesday this week. The children all wore helmets, knee and elbow pads and were told how important these items are for their safety. Then they went around a track specially designed to test their balance and steering ability. It was exhausting!

After a quick break and refreshments (lots of water!) they split into teams and had a relay race. The children had great fun and learnt some new skills. Thank you to ASM for hosting this amazing event, hailed as ‘the best day ever!’ by our children!

  • Stone Age Workshop for C3

    Fri 05 May 2023

Class 3 enjoyed a fantastic day this week at The Wolseley Centre for a Stone Age Workshop. The children explored lots of different aspects of the Stone Age including pot making, fire lighting, cave painting and den building and had so much fun in the process.
As well as this, lots of them also go to enjoy their very first experience of a journey on the public bus which turned out to be lots of fun too.  What an adventure!  Thank you, Class 3, for representing
St. John’s so well, you have all been amazing!

  • Create with Camerata for C3 and C4

    Mon 06 Feb 2023

We have a very exciting opportunity for children in Class 3 and Class 4. All children will be taking part in the Create with Camerata project alongside Manchester Camerata Orchestra, which brings together music making, singing and performance!
This year’s project is based around Roald Dahl’s Matilda. Over the next few weeks, children will be taking part in a lyric writing workshop in class, which will then be followed by a song writing session with a musician from the Camerata project. Children’s ideas will be used to create a song to tell part of the story, which will then be rehearsed in school.
This will then be performed alongside other schools telling the other sections of the story at Prince of Wales Theatre in Cannock on Monday 27th March 2023 at 2pm having been fully orchestrated and performed alongside the orchestra and actors.
This is a fantastic opportunity to explore music and song-writing with an incredibly talented group of musicians and will be a wonderful chance for our children to perform and experience live music!

  • Our School celebrates Outstanding leadership and management

    Fri 04 Nov 2022

Directors, governors, staff, parents and children at St John’s Catholic Primary School in Great Haywood are delighted with the school’s new Ofsted report which praises leadership and management at the school as ‘outstanding’.

Previously rated as ‘requires improvement’ in March 2019, St John’s was re-inspected at the end of September.  The school is part of The Painsley Catholic Academy and its new Head of School, Mrs Lucy Snaith has been in post for just over a year.

    The Ofsted report states:

“St John’s Catholic Primary is a warm and welcoming place. The school motto, ‘we are better together’, is realised. There is a strong sense of community and mutual respect……The school is a calm and orderly place in which to learn…..Pupils say they feel safe…….Leaders have high aspirations for what pupils can achieve. Staff expect pupils to work hard and try their best. Pupils live up to these expectations.

Pupils are polite and courteous and have positive attitudes to learning. This starts in Nursery……Leaders provide pupils with a wide range of experiences beyond the classroom. This helps to give pupils a sense of responsibility. Pupils can be a member of the school council or a play leader. They can raise money for charity or donate food to a local food bank. The school is therefore a valued part of the local community.

Directors and leaders of the Painsley Catholic Academy multi-academy company (MAC) have a clear vision for the school. They want pupils to achieve the best they can.  Every pupil matters. Leaders and staff across the school share this vision.”

Head of School, Mrs Lucy Snaith said, “This has been a real morale boost for everyone within the school community.  Our school is going from strength to strength with pupil numbers rising, improvements in student attainments and a massive increase in extracurricular activities and trips.  We have a lovely, friendly community and I am thankful to each and every member of our school family.”

The Ofsted report also found the quality of education to be ‘Good’, behaviour and attitudes, ‘Good’, personal development and early years’ provision were judged to be ‘Good’.

The school is holding an open morning for prospective parents looking for a place in Nursery or Reception on 15th November at 9.30am.  Parents need to contact the office to book their place.
